Tillers As any master gardener will tell you, proper soil preparation and cultivation is key to having a healthy, productive garden. This generally involves the use of a gas-powered garden tiller. Garden size and soil condition often dictates the size and type of tiller that is best for your particular garden application. Honda has introduced a new
mini-tiller/cultivator that offers a variety of special features and
attachments that are sure to appeal to weekend gardeners everywhere. The
Honda Harmony FG100 mini tiller/cultivator is powered by Honda’s latest
technological marvel – a 360-degree inclinable mini 4-stroke OHV engine.
These engines offer a number of distinct advantages over traditional 2-strokes (used on most mini-tilters). First, a 4-stroke engine runs on regular gas. There’s no need to prepare a special gas/oil mixture. Second, because 4-stroke engines burn fuel much more efficiently, you use less fuel and don’t experience the smelly, smoky, exhaust associated with many 2-stroke engines. Third, Honda 4-stroke OHV engines are legendary for easy starting and finally, the most dramatic difference you'll notice is the more pleasing sound produced by the mini 4-stroke. The FG100 is powerful, yet lightweight (weighing less than 27 pounds). The nine-inch tilling width allows gardeners to achieve a fine, loam-grade soil for garden preparation. Unlike other brand mini-tillers, that require you to operate the machine walking backwards, the Honda FG100 allows the operator to walk forward. Because of its compact size, the Honda Harmony can be used to within one-inch of growing plants throughout the season to maintain a suitable soil condition. Additional features include easy-to-reach, positive on/off controls, fingertip throttle control, and a folding handle for convenient storage and rubber-grip handle for easy carrying. The Honda Harmony FG100 comes standard with bolo-type tilling tines and rear transport wheels. When it comes to storing your Honda mini-tiller, the transport wheels support the tiller without it flopping over no matter where you put it down. The Mantis and Troy-Bilt models on the other hand are not free standing and need to be carefully leaned up against a wall, a tree, or your spouse for support. Optional attachments include slicing tines, border / edger, aerator and dethatcher.
